Water Resource Inventory Area (WRIA) 9

Purpose

The purpose of the Forum of Local Governments for Water Resource Inventory Area 9 -- the Green/Duwamish and Central Puget Sound Watershed -- is to:

  • Provide an opportunity for all local governments that share the watershed to discuss salmon habitat and water quality issues
  • Provide overall direction for joint efforts to protect and restore salmon habitat, including promoting implementation of the Salmon Habitat Plan
  • Make recommendations about allocation of King Conservation District funds to support salmon habitat projects and activities important to the entire watershed
  • Approve the Salmon Habitat Plan developed by the Steering Committee (completed in 2005)
  • Provide oversight for the jointly-funded staff working to implement the Salmon Habitat Plan

Membership

The WRIA 9 Forum includes representatives of 15 local governments that have jurisdiction in WRIA 9 and Tacoma Public Utilities. Forum representatives are either elected officials or appointed staff.

Management Committee of the Forum

The Forum is assisted by a Management Committee that consists of seven members of the Forum. This committee meets periodically to develop agenda items for the Forum and to provide direction to the jointly-funded staff working on the salmon habitat plans.
