The WRIA 9 Steering Committee completed the Near-Term Action Agenda (NTAA) in May 2002. The NTAA was the second of four products in the WRIA 9 watershed planning process. The Near-Term Action Agenda recommended near-term actions to help restore and protect habitat for chinook salmon and bull trout, which were listed as threatened under the federal Endangered Species Act in 1999. The document:
From 2002-2005, the NTAA provided guidance to local governments, volunteer groups, and citizens on interim measures to protect and restore salmon habitat while the Steering Committee worked on the long-term comprehensive Salmon Habitat Plan for the watershed. To learn about this progress, see the progress reports listed in the box to the left. As a guidance document for watershed salmon habitat recovery efforts, the NTAA was replaced by the Salmon Habitat Plan in December 2005. Public Comment Asked For and Used in the Near-Term Action Agenda The public review period for the draft NTAA occurred from January 22 to February 27, 2002. A Steering Committee subcommittee reviewed all public comments and suggested a variety of changes to the draft NTAA. The Steering Committee accepted all of the changes suggested by its subcommittee. A list of the comments and the suggested/adopted changes can be found in the "Steering Committee Guide to Comments" included in the March 14, 2002 meeting packet for the Steering Committee.
