Duwamish Gardens Acquisition and Restoration in Tukwila
Project Description
- Located in the Duwamish Estuary Subwatershed
- Project is part of project DUW-7 in the 2005 Salmon Habitat Plan (page 7-90)
- Project would acquire a two-acre parcel with at least 500 feet of river bank just downstream of the East Marginal Way S. bridge
- Subsequent phases will involve design and construction of off-channel habitat that will benefit juvenile threatened chinook salmon and other fish and wildlife
Partners and Funding
- Led by the City of Tukwila
- $311,000 funded by SRFB (seventh round) with the City of Tukwila providing $50,000, the King County Conservation Futures program providing $700,000, and the Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account providing $457,521, and the King Conservation District providing $225,000

Importance for Salmon
- Site is located in the zone of salt and freshwater mixing that is especially important to juvenile salmon in the watershed
- Critical transition area for juvenile salmon produced higher in the Green/Duwamish River watershed
- Opportunity to construct up to two acres of intertidal slough/side channel in the future
