Green Building Initiative
A King County Executive Order establishing policy to encourage and promote the use of green building practices in all buildings King County constructs, remodels, and renovates.

King County Environmental Purchasing Program
The King County Environmental Purchasing Program assists County agencies in implementation of a King County Executive Policy, which requires agencies to use recycled and other environmentally preferable products wherever practicable.

These environmental purchasing bulletins contain information about the results of product evaluations and other accomplishments of County agencies.
Biodiesel Fuel
King County Metro is piloting the use of a five percent blend of biodiesel to help power its fleet of 1,200+ buses through 2006 as part of a Seattle City Light greenhouse gas mitigation program. This partnership will establish the largest biodiesel-powered fleet in Washington State.

New Flyer Articulated Hybrid Diesel-Electric Bus
King County Metro has purchased this 60-foot hybrid diesel-electric bus to test in a variety of driving situations, including the downtown transit tunnel.

Fuel Cell Demonstration Project
King County's Wastewater Treatment Division, FuelCell Energy Inc, and the U.S. EPA Office of Wastewater Management are working together to sponsor the world's largest demonstration project of a molten carbonate (MCFC or "Direct") fuel cell using digester gas (methane) as fuel. The demonstration project is aimed at testing the technology and the claims of high energy conversion efficiencies and low air emissions for fuel cells.

Solid Waste Division Environmental Awareness Program
Its primary goal is to develop a Division-wide Environmental Management System that examines, plans and documents our environmental practices in all aspects of operation - from the field to the shop to the office.

King Street Center Virtual Tour
King Street Center, home of King County's Department of Natural Resources and Parks and Department of Transportation, is a model of environmental integrity and sustainability.

WasteWise
WasteWise provides assistance and referrals for King County agencies that need help with recycling, waste reduction or buying-recycled.

King County Business Recycling Programs
Provides information about waste reduction, reuse, and recycling programs specifcally designed for businesses of all kinds.
