Minor Flooding in the Snoqualmie Valley
The King County Flood Warning Center has issued a Phase Two flood alert for the Snoqualmie River due to prolonged heavy rain and is now open to monitor minor lowland flooding in the Snoqualmie Valley. As of 9 a.m. the North, Middle and South forks of the Snoqualmie River in the upper valley had a combined flow of 13,500 cubic feet per second and rising. That rate of flow is likely to cause minor lowland flooding later today.
Currently, no roads have been closed, however, residents should be aware they might find water over roadways in low-lying areas later today. Motorists are cautioned not to drive around barricades if they encounter a road closure. Driving around barriers is the number one cause of death during flooding.
Due to the lack of mountain snowpack and low river levels from this summer, the National Weather Service is not predicting serious flooding in King County. However, heavy rain is in the forecast and King County will continue to monitor the situation until rivers have receded below flooding thresholds.
