February 3, 1999 Contact: Karen May (206) 296-4353 Composting and Waste Reduction King County to Teach Composting and Waste Reduction Classes King County announces a spring class to help people make changes in their daily lives to help the environment. All King County residents living outside of Seattle are eligible to learn how to educate their families, friends, and neighbors about the benefits of waste reduction, recycling and composting through the King County Master Recycler Program. The training, sponsored by the King County Solid Waste Division, is free of charge. Community members who complete the training will receive 40 hours of free classroom and hands-on instruction, as well as field demonstrations. While there is no fee for this course, participants are expected to share their knowledge and skills with others by volunteering 40 hours of community service. Master Recycler Composter graduates will provide outreach at schools, nurseries, churches, fairs, and other community gatherings in exchange for the training. The next annual training will take place at the Tukwila Community Center on Thursday evenings from March 11 through April 22 and will include three full Saturdays on March 13, March 27, and April 10.
