Volunteer salmon watchers needed Volunteer salmon observers are needed to watch and count spawning adult salmon in the Lake Washington/Lake Sammamish/Cedar River watershed this fall. King County's Department of Natural Resources Water and Land Division is mobilizing volunteers in partnership with Seattle, Redmond, Bellevue, Bothell, Issaquah, Woodinville, Kirkland, Renton, Snohomish County, Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, and the state. Salmon watchers will collect valuable information for scientists and other government officials who make decisions that affect fish. Volunteers will watch for fish from neighborhood places — such as bridge crossings, public footpaths, or their own back yards — at least two times a week during salmon spawning season from September through the end of December. Interested volunteers need to attend one of three salmon identification training workshops. Biologists from King County and its partner jurisdictions will teach volunteers how to observe fish and volunteers will sign up for observation locations.
