News Release
King County is Ready to Help You Clean Up

King County residents can bring their old tires, car batteries, reusable household appliances and other hard-to-recycle items to a special recycling event on Saturday, August 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Eastlake High School on the Sammamish Plateau.
Recycle old car, truck or marine vessel batteries. Regular household batteries will not be accepted. Styrofoam, in "peanut" form only, will be accepted if completely secured in a closed box or bag. Up to six car or motorcycle tires, with a maximum inner-diameter of 18.5 inches and rims removed, can be turned in. Scrap metal such as car parts, lawnmowers and bicycles will be accepted, after all fluids and tires have been removed. Working appliances and household items such as furniture, toys, books, sporting equipment, area rugs, beds, stain-free mattresses, and clothing (with "garage sale" stickers removed) will be accepted for charity, if in good working condition and undamaged, and for resale in thrift shops.

Materials such as concrete, rock, brick, and asphalt can be turned in (size limit 2 cubic feet). Household sinks and toilets can be recycled for a handling fee of $5. Please remove all plastic and metals. Household refrigerators and freezers can be recycled for a handling fee of $15 to pay for the safe disposal of CFC coolants. Commercial units will not be accepted.

The county can not accept bulky wood waste, leaves, grass, yard waste, painted or treated wood, polycoated paper board, # 6 plastics, broken furniture, broken televisions or appliances, carpet, non-reusable rugs, garbage, Styrofoam blocks and frames, demolition debris or hazardous wastes such as paints, thinners or motor oils.

Eastlake High School is located at 400 228th Ave., NE. From I-90, take exit 15 and go north on 17th Avenue NW. Turn right on NW Sammamish Road, which becomes SE 56th Street. Turn left at Lake Sammamish Parkway SE, then turn right at SE 43rd Way. This road curves around and becomes 228th Avenue SE. Continue on 228th for about three miles. Eastlake High School is on the right, next to Sammamish Highlands Center.
