News Release
Construction to Temporarily Close Bow Lake Transfer Station

The King County Bow Lake Transfer Station on Orillia Road in Tukwila will be closed from August 28 through October 8, 2000. Improvements are needed to the garbage pit area of this busy station that receives nearly 120,000 tons of garbage a year. During the 6-week closure, garbage will not be accepted at the facility. However, the recycling area will remain open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily for drop off of newspapers, aluminum and tin cans, glass and plastic bottles, mixed paper and cardboard. Closure of the Bow Lake Transfer Station will not affect curbside garbage pickup services.

The County is requesting that customers who haul their own garbage use the Renton Transfer Station at 3021 NE 4th Street in Renton instead, during the Bow Lake closure. Loads longer than 25 feet will be re-routed to the Enumclaw Transfer Station at 1650 Battersby Avenue East in Enumclaw. Customers who do not already subscribe to curbside pickup can contact King County Solid Waste for referral information about signing up for curbside collection of garbage and recyclables.

For more information or for directions to the Renton or Enumclaw transfer stations, contact the King County Solid Waste Information Line at (206) 296-4466 or 1-800-833-6388 (TTY Relay) or visit the web site is http://dnr.metrokc.gov/swd.
