News Release
County to hold public meeting on gravity pipeline alternative and stabilization of Madsen Creek tributaries

King County will host a public meeting to discuss the preliminary design for piping wastewater from the Fairwood area and new project information about the stabilization and enhancement of the Madsen Creek Tributaries. The meeting will be held Wednesday, November 15th at Fairwood Elementary School, 16600 148th Ave. SE, Renton, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the gymnasium.

King County and the Fairwood Community have identified an all-gravity pipeline as the preferred method for pumping wastewater from the area. An all-gravity method, as the name implies, relies on the force of gravity rather than mechanical pumping to move wastewater through the pipeline. Selecting this method was the result of a cooperative effort between the county and the Fairwood Community, which included a series of public meetings and workshops throughout the summer.

New information on the stabilization and enhancement of some of the Madsen Creek Ravine tributaries will also be presented at the meeting. After hearing from the community, the County has moved the position of the proposed stormwater pond site further away from the neighboring properties. The stormwater pond is designed to reduce erosion in the tributaries. The project also includes proposals to place large woody debris, rock structures and plant natural vegetation to stabilize some of the tributary channels.

All interested individuals, groups, and businesses are encouraged to attend this final workshop. For more information, or to be added to the project mailing list, please call Stan Hummel at (206) 684-1844 or Kathy Albert at (206) 269-5041 (TTY: 1-800-833-6388).
