Media Advisory Join King County scientists on Puget Sound as they deploy scientific instruments to study Puget Sound currents. The current studies are part of the process to find the most suitable place for an outfall for King County’s new wastewater facility in north King or south Snohomish county. 8 a.m., Wed., October 25 During the trip, scientists and technicians will deploy drogues and drift cards to help them better understand the deep water and surface currents of Puget Sound. The drogues are essentially buoys that include an underwater sail and the ability to transmit data via satellite to King County computers. The drift cards float on the surface of the water. A computer on board will show reporters the flow of currents in the Sound and the model scientists are using as they work to protect public health and the environment by finding the most suitable site for an outfall for King County’s third wastewater treatment plant, Brightwater. The Brightwater facility will be built somewhere in north King or south Snohomish county by 2010 to serve the growing population in the region.
