News Release
Community Open House on water reuse in the Sammamish Valley scheduled for April 25

The public is invited to a Community Open House on Thursday, April 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to learn about the King County Wastewater Treatment Division's plans to site and design a reclaimed water facility in the Sammamish Valley.

Reclaimed water is highly treated wastewater that is safe for irrigation and industrial uses. There are currently hundreds of water reclamation systems operating around the United States. Once reclaimed water is available along the Sammamish River, several major water users will switch to reclaimed water for irrigation and stop drawing water from the river or groundwater. This change will leave more water in the river for salmon that migrate up the Sammamish River to spawn each fall, supporting King County's goal to protect the environment.

As the first step in siting a facility, King County is hosting the open house at Gold Creek Lodge, 16020 148th Avenue N.E. in Woodinville. Attendees will be able to find out about the following:

    • Information on King County's Water Reuse Program
    • Benefits of developing reclaimed water resources in the Sammamish Valley
    • Criteria to select a site
    • Potential locations
    • Opportunities to provide input into the process.

For more information on the open house or to arrange accommodations for people with disabilities, contact Jo Sullivan at (206) 296-8361, 711 (TTY) or jo.sullivan@kingcounty.gov. More information and directions are available on the Web at www.dnr.metrokc.gov/WTD/reuse/.
