Public invited to learn about pipeline system for Brightwater wastewater treatment plant

Five public meetings in July, August and September will focus on building a system for moving wastewater to and from a proposed treatment plant serving south Snohomish County and north King County.

The Brightwater treatment plant will help protect public health and the environment in the rapidly growing service area. Besides the plant, the project includes a conveyance system of pipelines, portals and pump stations. The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is considering 10 alternative conveyance routes.

The conveyance seminars, on the following dates, will include an open house from 7 to 7:30 p.m. followed by a presentation from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

During the seminars, people will be able do the following:

  • Learn about the conveyance alternatives and how one final conveyance route will be selected.
  • Hear about the types of construction being considered and the possible impacts of construction.
  • Ask questions, identify concerns and get other information.

Brightwater will at one of two locations-either the Unocal Corp. property in Edmonds or property along State Route 9 north of Woodinville. The system will also include an outfall in Puget Sound. About 63 percent of the wastewater treated at Brightwater will come from Snohomish County.
