News Release The King County Parks and Recreation Division has closed the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center until mid-October to complete scheduled repairs and maintenance. During the closure, all three pools will be fitted with new liners that protect the structural integrity of the concrete. Replacing the liners is a time consuming process that requires all of the pools to be drained and dried before they can be resurfaced and filled. The timing equipment and scoreboard will also receive maintenance during the closure. The Aquatic Center was the site of the 1990 Goodwill Games, two Olympic Trials and seven major synchronized swimming competitions. The USA Swimming Disability Championships and the Esynchro Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championships were held at the pool earlier this summer. King County apologizes for any inconvenience this closure may cause but encourages patrons to visit nearby King County Parks and Recreation Division pools. Nearby facilities that are open to the public include the Auburn Pool and the Federal Way Pool. Pool addresses, program schedules and fees can be accessed at www.metrokc.gov/parks/pools/pools1.htm or by calling the King County Aquatics Office at (206) 296-7643. |
