News Release Youth 18 and under are invited to sign up for the 2nd Annual King County Youth Triathlon, to be held on Saturday, August 24th at King County's Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley. The triathlon course challenges the young participants to swim, run and bike. Lake Wilderness Park provides a scenic setting for the triathlon that promotes health, fitness, friendly competition and fun for youth of all athletic abilities. Registration for individuals is only $50, and teams of three can sign-up for $115. Registration materials will be accepted through August 19th. The triathlon will have eight individual categories (four girls and four boys), and three team categories (girls, boys and mixed). Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each category. In addition, the top girl and boy finisher in the full course will be recognized with a trophy. Competitors may move up in age classification if they wish. The distances for each category are as follows:
The swimming course is a loop in Lake Wilderness, and lifeguards will be stationed throughout. The bike route is a loop on the Cedar River Trail. The running course is a loop on trails within Lake Wilderness Park and the Cedar River Trail. The triathlon will begin at 8:00 a.m. (check-in at 7:00 a.m.). The course will be cleared of competitors at 11:45 a.m. The awards ceremony will begin at the Lake Wilderness swimming beach at the completion of the race.
