Media Advisory Youth 18 and under will test their endurance this weekend as the second annual King County Youth Triathlon kicks off Saturday, August 24, 8 a.m. (check-in at 7 a.m.), at King County's Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley. The triathlon challenges young athletes to swim, run and bike. Lake Wilderness provides a scenic setting for the triathlon that promotes health, fitness, friendly competition and fun for youth of all athletic abilities. The triathlon will have eight individual categories (four girls and four boys), and three team categories (girls, boys and mixed). Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each category. In addition, the top girl and boy finisher in the full course will be recognized with a trophy. Competitors may move up in age classification if they wish. The swimming course is a loop in Lake Wilderness where lifeguards will be stationed throughout; the bike route is a loop on the Cedar River Trail; and the running course is a loop on trails within Lake Wilderness Park and the Cedar River Trail.
