Second annual King County Youth Triathlon a huge Success

The second annual King County Youth Triathlon attracted athletes ranging in age from seven to 18 as they took the ultimate test of endurance last Saturday, August 24, at King County's Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley. The triathlon challenged young athletes to swim, run and bike.

The overall first place trophy-winners were Jessica Wang in the girls overall category with a time of 1:26.04 and Aaron Renner in the boys overall category with a time of 1:14.14. The two completed a .5-mile swim, 10-mile bike ride and a 3-mile run.

The respective female and male age group winners were:

  • Madeline Graham and Patrick Hsu for 10 and under;
  • Stacy Hayden and Andrew Hsu for 12 and under;
  • Jessica Wang and Matthew Benoit for 14 and under; and
  • Melissa Hood and Aaron Renner for 18 and under.

The winners in the team categories were:

  • Team Kate Lindsay took first place for girl's team category;
  • The Conquerors won the boy's team category; and
  • Team Tahoma won the mixed team category.

Over 50 volunteers representing King County Division of Parks, Recreation, and Aquatics were in the field and at the finish lines to help the race run smoothly and safely. King County's Lake Wilderness provided a scenic setting for the triathlon that promoted health, fitness, friendly competition and fun for youth of all athletic abilities.
