News Release The Agriculture Commission is devoted to promoting and protecting agriculture and agricultural lands in King County. The meetings are open to the public and are scheduled the second Thursday of the month at the Mercer Island Community Center from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Martin has served as president of the Vashon Island Growers Association and as a member of the board of Directors of the Vashon Island Chamber of Commerce. He says he is committed to protecting, nurturing and the growth of the agriculture industry and food system of western Washington. Since Martin began serving on the Commission in April, he promoted the first National Community Food Security Coalition Conference "Eating Locally, Thinking Globally"; received the endorsement of the Commission for VIGA Food for Thought Community Potluck; and voted to approve funds for cable television advertising spots to aid in farmers market and small produce stands. "I would like to hear the agricultural concerns of the community," said Nyberg. "I am interested in the issues that are a threat to the health of local agriculture."
