News Release
Consider donating garden surplus during
Week of Giving

Don't know what to do with that extra zucchini? Are the tomatoes taking over your garden? Donate your extra produce to people who need it most - food bank and hot meal program recipients. Gardeners are asked to donate surplus produce for delivery to food banks and hot meals programs during this weeklong event, September 9 through 14.

The King County Parks and Recreation Division is joining the Fremont Public Association's Lettuce Link Program, the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods and Friends of P-Patch to encourage citizens to bring their extras to a Week of Giving Booth, or buy extras from the farmers and donate the produce. Among Puget Sound-area locations accepting donations are King County's Marymoor Park Community Garden and North Green River Community Garden.

Donations of fresh produce will be accepted at all of the collection sites listed below:

Background: This is the 10th annual event in the greater Seattle area. Last year, gardeners donated over 4,500 pounds of fresh produce that was distributed to 15 agencies. This is the third year King County Community Gardens have participated in this program. Last year King County collected more than 600 pounds of produce.
