News Release King County is reminding residents who haul their own garbage that the Algona Transfer Station is temporarily closed while the roof is being replaced. The station will reopen on November 18, 2002. The existing roof is over 30 years old and cannot accommodate today's larger solid waste collection vehicles. The new roof will improve the safety and efficiency for all transfer station customers. The transfer station serves customers in Algona, Auburn, Pacific, Federal Way and Kent areas. This closure does not affect your curbside garbage collection service. During the closure, residents may take their garbage and recyclables to other King County transfer stations. The closest alternate transfer stations are the Bow Lake Transfer Station just off I-5 in Tukwila, and the Enumclaw Transfer Station. The Bow Lake Transfer Station will be open extended hours on weekdays (Mon-Fri 6:15 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.) while the Algona Transfer Station is closed. Residents may also call their local garbage collection company and sign up for collection services at their homes. Contact information is provided in the table below.
