News Release
Don't miss chance to watch, learn about Cedar River salmon

Your last chance this fall to watch and learn about salmon splashing their way up the Cedar River is fast approaching. Only three weekend days remain in the Cedar River Salmon Journey program - November 2, 3 and 9.

Trained volunteers will be stationed at four different salmon-viewing locations on November 2, 3, 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., to tell visitors about the natural and human history of the river, the life cycle and habitat needs of the fish, and what everyone can do to ensure the return of the salmon. The four locations include the Renton Library, Riverview Park, Cavanaugh Pond and Landsburg Park. Due to limited parking at each site, carpooling is strongly advised.

Visitor numbers are up for 2002. After two weekends, the Cedar River Salmon Journey has already attracted nearly 2,300 visitors, up from 1,900 in 2001, to watch and learn about bright red sockeye and large chinook salmon swimming upstream to spawn in the Cedar River.

The Cedar River Naturalist program is sponsored by the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, The Seattle Aquarium, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle Public Utilities, and the City of Renton.
