News Release
Industrial waste dischargers earn environmental awards for complying with King County regulations

Five companies in Seattle, Renton, Bellevue and Woodinville have earned a Commitment-to-Compliance Award from the Industrial Waste Program of King County's Wastewater Treatment Division. Eighty-three companies earned other environmental awards for complying with discharge regulations in 2002.

The top five companies are Time Oil Co. in Seattle's Magnolia area and Industrial Container Services Inc. in Seattle's Duwamish industrial area; Boeing Commercial Airplane, Renton; Circuit Services WorldWide LLC, Bellevue; and Universal Sheet Metal Inc., Woodinville.

The Commitment-to-Compliance Award honors companies that protected public health and the environment by discharging wastewater every month for five years with no violations of any kind.

Sixty-three companies earned a Gold Award for discharging wastewater every month in 2002 with no violations. And 20 companies earned a Silver Award for having no monitoring violations during the year.

Note to editors and reporters: All award winners and their locations are listed below.

"The King County Industrial Waste Program commends these businesses and facilities for their care protecting the environment by pretreating the industrial wastewater they discharge into the sewerage system," said Don Theiler, Wastewater Treatment Division director.

Every year, King County recognizes significant industrial users of the sewer system that have maintained an excellent record of compliance with King County's industrial waste discharge regulations for the previous calendar year.

King County's industrial pretreatment regulations are designed to prevent businesses from discharging substances that can degrade the wastewater treatment process, harm workers, damage facilities or reduce surface-water quality.

The county's wastewater treatment utility protects public health and water quality by serving 18 cities, 15 sewer districts and more than 1.4 million residents in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties.
