Country star Jo Dee Messina highlights strong King County Fair concert line-up

Jo Dee MessinaThe King County Fair in Enumclaw is announcing that advance tickets for country music heavyweights Jo Dee Messina (July 18), Sawyer Brown (July 16) and Terri Clark (July 20), along with rock mainstay Grand Funk Railroad (July 17) and popular cover band The Beatniks (July 19), are now on sale.

Concert ticket prices range from $15 to $39, with advance sales including admission to the fair. The fair runs July 16-20 at the King County Fairgrounds in Enumclaw. Tickets are available from the TicketsWest Web site www.ticketswest.com or via phone at 1-800-325-7328. Day of concert sales will also be available at the VIP Ticket Booth inside the Fairgrounds, but do not include fair admission.

The fair venue seats 1,900. Gates to each show will open one hour prior, with seating issued on a first come/first served basis.

Jo Dee Messina

Jo Dee Messina will perform Friday, July 18, 8 p.m. Advanced tickets are $39. She is a multi-platinum artist whose second release "I'm Alright" garnered Album of the Year nominations by the Academy of Country Music. The album also produced three consecutive No. 1 country singles on the Billboard charts, the first ever for a female artist. Accomplishments and awards have since followed, earning her Top New Female Vocalist award for 1999, Billboard Most Played Country Female of 1999, Country Music Association's Horizon Award, and Song of the Year for "Bye, Bye" at the ASCAP Awards. Her third album "Burn" entered the Country Albums chart at number one and sold over a million copies and earned two Grammy nominations.

Sawyer Brown

Sawyer BrownThe legendary group, known for generating energy, emotion and loyalty with their music and dynamic live shows, will perform Wednesday, July 16, 8 p.m. Advanced tickets are priced at $29. For 20 years, Sawyer Brown has produced fresh, fun and relevant songs and have been called the "Rolling Stones" of country music. Career highlights include 13 gold and platinum albums in the United States and Canada, 19 Top 5 Country radio singles and over 3,000 tour dates.

Terri Clark

Terri ClarkNominated for Top Female Vocalist by the Academy of County Music, Clark will hit the Fairgrounds stage Sunday, July 20, 6 p.m. Advanced tickets are $25. Her latest album, ''Pain to Kill,'' released in January, landed on Billboard's country album chart at the No. 5 spot, with first-week sales doubling those of any of her four previous albums. The first single, ''I Just Wanna Be Mad,'' hit No. 1 on the country charts. Clark has been credited with seven Top10 singles and a single, double and triple platinum record.

Grand Funk Railroad

Grand Funk RailroadThe group that melded aggressive guitar riffs, flashy organ lines, party lyrics and funk, will play Thursday, July 17 at 8 p.m. with advanced tickets $25. Grand Funk Railroad formed in 1969 and became one of the top selling American rock groups of the following decade. The group's first concert at Shea Stadium in New York City sold out faster than the Beatles famed show. Over the years they have 19 charted singles, 12 gold and 10 platinum records and have sold more than 25 million copies worldwide. The group broke up in 1976 but reunited in 1998 for a nationwide tour.

The Beatniks

the beatniksSeattle band, The Beatniks, will be performing Saturday, July 19, 8 p.m. at a FREE summer concert. The Beatniks are known for performing the tunes of the 1960s, '70s and '80s with high-energy and passion that appeals to audiences from the young to the young at heart. Performances include cover versions of hits by industry favorites like The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, The Monkees and Beach Boys. Since their beginning they have over 2,000 performances to their credit and have headlined shows that have drawn crowds of 20,000, such as the Seattle Space Needle New Year's Eve celebration.

The theme of this year's fair is "Little Things Are Big At the King County Fair." The old-fashioned traditions of the King County Fair date to 1863, the year the fair began. The fair's trademark entertainment continues 140 years later with musical performances, long-standing agricultural displays, loggers skill competition and a professional rodeo.
