News Release Treatment plant design, technology innovations, odor prevention, pipeline route revisions, tunnel construction and other technical topics will be discussed during a public seminar on the proposed Brightwater wastewater facilities Saturday, July 19, in Bothell. Scientists, engineers and other experts will present the latest technical information on the treatment plant and conveyance pipeline system. The second of three technical seminars is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the University of Washington at Bothell, Building UW2, 18115 Campus Way N.E. People can review new seminar-related reports on the Web and at local libraries beginning July 3. People can also call the Brightwater project to ask for printed copies of the reports or compact disks containing the reports. At the technical seminars, participants can ask questions about the technical presentations. Professional child care and a light lunch will be provided. Participants also can comment on technical information prepared for the seminar. Comments can be made in person, through e-mail or through postal mail during the 30-day comment period, July 3 to Aug. 4. People don't have to attend the seminar to comment. Brightwater must be running by 2010 to serve the rapidly growing population in north King County and south Snohomish County. King County's wastewater treatment utility has been protecting public health and water quality in the Brightwater service area for nearly 40 years. The third seminar will be Aug. 16 in Bothell. Its topics will include geotechnical investigations, protection of regional aquifers, dewatering and construction methods, and traffic impacts. Since writing the draft environmental impact statement for Brightwater last year, staff and consultants for the regional utility operated by King County have been conducting more scientific studies and analyses. They will share new information in areas of concern often noted in comments on the draft EIS for the project. The public will have a chance to comment on the new information before a final decision is made in December about siting Brightwater facilities. The final EIS will be released in November. For more information, visit the Brightwater Web site for seminar agendas, copies of each seminar's technical reports and comment period schedule: http://dnr.metrokc.gov/wtd/brightwater/seminars. To get a free CD or paper copy of the reports, ask general Brightwater questions, or arrange reasonable accommodations at the seminars for people with disabilities, call the project team at (206) 684-6799 (voice), 1 (888) 707-8571 (toll free) or 711 (TTY) - or send an e-mail message to brightwater@kingcounty.gov. King County's Wastewater Treatment Division protects public health and water quality by serving 18 cities, 15 sewer districts and more than 1.4 million residents in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties.
