Get out this autumn and Fall for Salmon

Join King County in celebrating one of the Pacific Northwest's natural wonders - the return of our majestic salmon.

King County proudly presents Fall for Salmon, a series of events and activities that celebrate the salmon and help to ensure these amazing fish continue returning to their ancestral homes forever. Fall for Salmon runs through November and is a perfect opportunity to witness one of the Pacific Northwest's most important natural resources. To learn everything you need to know about this spectacular seasonal occurrence visit metrokc.gov and click Fall for Salmon.

Fall for Salmon's best bets include:

  • Follow the Salmon up the Cedar River - This fall you can join volunteer naturalists at four sites along the Cedar River to see spawning salmon. Learn about the epic journey that takes place every fall as salmon swim from the ocean - through the Locks - through Lake Washington and on up the river to spawn. Naturalists will be on duty at Renton Library, Riverview Park, Cavanaugh Pond and Landsburg Park on October 18, 25 and 26, and November 1, 2 and 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. To learn more, call 206-296-8359, or visit the Cedar River Naturalist Web site.
  • Plant a Tree - Help improve and maintain our parks and natural lands through clean-up efforts and restoration projects. Plant a tree by the river and stream banks or help clean and tend foliage. Have fun and learn how you can play a crucial role in maintaining not only the salmon's habitat, but also the Pacific Northwest.

Several exciting Fall for Salmon activities are set for this weekend, including a tree planting at Cavanaugh Pond along the Cedar River near Renton; a Sammamish ReLeaf tree planting in Woodinville; the 34th annual Issaquah Salmon Days Festival, where you can stop by the King County booth for free tips on natural lawn care and games for kids; and the 5th annual Seattle Home Show 2, where a Built Green exhibit features environmentally friendly products made with recycled materials.
