News Release King County transfer stations will re-open Friday, December 5 after a day of strong winds downed trees and power lines forcing closure of transfer stations and the Cedar Hills Landfill. "Because of hazardous driving conditions to and from the Cedar Hills landfill, most of the transfer stations were closed by 1 PM today," said Solid Waste Division Director Theresa Jennings. "Cedar Grove Road leading to the landfill was blocked by downed trees and power lines and with high winds predicted into the afternoon, the risk to those traveling to and from the landfill was too high. All transfer stations are expected to reopen Friday at 8 a.m." Most of King County's transfer stations and the landfill closed by 1:00 p.m. today due to the extreme weather conditions and resulting road hazards. Exceptions were Factoria Transfer Station in Bellevue, which closed by 3:00 p.m., and First Northeast Transfer Station in Shoreline and Vashon which will remain open until 5:30 p.m. There will be no evening hours at the Factoria station. All stations will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Friday 12/5/03 - including Algona, Bow Lake and Factoria, which usually open at 6:15 AM. We recommend that customers contact the King County Solid Waste Division at 206-296-6542; toll free: 1-800-325-6165, ext. 6-6542, 711 (TTY Relay) or on-line at http://dnr.metrokc.gov/swd before going to a station.
