Visitors to King County's Marymoor Park near Redmond have a new
way to support county parks--by chowing down! A new SUBWAY franchise
began serving sandwiches in the park on Saturday, April 30.
"The easy availability of healthy, quickly-prepared food
is a great amenity for park users," enthused park manager
Norah Gaynor. "Marymoor hosts more than a hundred walks, rides,
tournaments and other special events each year. We are eager to
work with SUBWAY."
"This is a wonderful link between our strong parks system
and a nationally branded corporate partner and a significant revenue
source," said Suzanne Little, director of King County Parks
and Recreation. "SUBWAY also offers healthy options that really
fit King County Parks' desire to promote healthy lifestyles. It
will be great for the athletes and families who use the facility."
The new franchise owner/operator Sang Ji currently operates five
successful SUBWAY franchises in the region including a store in
nearby Redmond.
"Marymoor attracts more than three million visitors each year,"
said Sang Ji. "It provides us with built-in clientele. It's a good
partnership."
"The SUBWAY opening is the latest response to King County
Executive Ron Sims' call to practice a "new way of doing business,"
said Little. "For the past three years, King County Parks has sought
innovative proposals for new concessions, sponsorships and events
to generate revenue and help fund our park system.
