Public invited to King County conference Oct. 27 on planning for climate change

King County will sponsor the 2005 Climate Change Conference, The Future Ain't What It Used to Be: Planning for Climate Disruption, from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Qwest Field, Conference Center, Seattle.

Please join King County Executive Ron Sims and representatives from a broad cross-section of Washington state governments, education, businesses, tribes, farmers, nonprofit organizations and the community-at-large. They will come together to discuss climate change impacts and potential adaptations, and they will begin preparing for a future that may challenge some old but persistent assumptions.

Conference highlights include:

  • Keynote luncheon speaker Christine Todd Whitman, former governor of New Jersey, former administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
  • Discussion and book signing with John Cox, author of Climate Crash: Abrupt Climate Change and What it Means for Our Future (external link)
  • Breakout sessions led by local experts on the potential impact of climate change on natural and water resources, agriculture, coastal areas, fishing, forestry, hydropower, water supply (municipal and industrial) and flooding/stormwater.
