A public ceremony honoring Brian Cook for the largest single-donor cash gift in King County Parks history is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, in the county's Big Finn Hill Park.
King County Parks Division Director Kevin Brown and Suzanne Cook and
her family invite the public to attend the dedication of the Brian Cook
Memorial Bench. The park is at Northeast 138th Street and Juanita Drive
Northeast, Kirkland.*
Suzanne Cook and her family chose to honor Brian's life and love of
Big Finn Hill Park by presenting a $10,000 gift to King County Parks.
Brian, a Boeing engineer, visited the park nearly every day with his
dog Teddy.
Brown said, "We understand that parks are meaningful places in the
lives of County residents, and we are truly thankful that Brian's
family chose to honor his life through this generous gift."
King County received the bequest in January 2005. The family
requested a late summer dedication so family members from around the
country could attend.
"Gifts, bequests and donations from
individuals, estates and family trusts are becoming more common as
residents in the area seek to provide 'legacy gifts' that positively
impact our region's future," said Tom Teigen, King County Parks
Division Business Implementation, manager.
Gifts that preserve open space, provide new amenities or ensure
ongoing support for a specific facility or program are tangible ways of
making a difference now and in the future. Donations and bequests can
be made directly to King County Parks, with all funds used only for
parks purposes.
Donations are fully tax-deductible, although potential donors should
consult their financial adviser or tax preparer. For more information
on donations and bequests to King County Parks, please contact Tom
Teigen at 206- 263-6230.
