Meeting on King County’s Stormwater Management Program planning is postponed

Feb. 13 meeting delayed to allow adequate time for public review

King County is postponing a Feb. 13 public meeting intended to receive feedback on local stormwater management practices and provide information about planned updates to the county's stormwater management program.

The public meeting, set in Renton, was postponed to ensure the public will get adequate time to review the new stormwater management program draft document, which is being prepared by King County in response to the 2007 Phase I Municipal Stormwater Permit issued by the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology).

A new meeting time will be set as soon as the draft is ready for public review.

Ecology has identified stormwater as a significant contributor to reduced water quality in Puget Sound, which is targeted for cleanup by a new state agency, the Puget Sound Partnership.

As part of the clean-up strategy for Puget Sound, Ecology used its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permitting authority to issue strict new stormwater permits to municipalities. King County is developing a stormwater management program to meet these requirements. The program will be reviewed and updated annually, providing the public with an ongoing opportunity to help shape the program's development and implementation.
