Burke Gilman Trail Redevelopment Citizens Advisory Group (CAG)
Background
The Burke-Gilman Trail Citizens Advisory Group (CAG) was convened by King County to ensure the Trail Redevelopment Study reflects the input and values of our multi-faceted community. The community advisory group is part of a collaborative effort between King County and Lake Forest Park to ensure representative community input is considered in the redevelopment of the trail. The Mission of the CAG is to provide King County with thoughtful and informed recommendations on issues related to the proposed redevelopment of the Burke-Gilman Trail through Lake Forest Park. It is understood that the CAG's viewpoint and subsequent recommendations are intended to be a reflection of the public's various positions. CAG input will include: Design, Safety, Liability, Maintenance, Enforcement, Environmental concerns
Both King County and the City of Lake Forest Park appreciate the dedication and time given by CAG volunteers.
Guiding Principles For the Citizen Advisory Group
In performing their duties, CAG members shall agree to conduct proceedings in a productive, non-confrontational manner. In addition, each CAG participant shall pledge to:
- Provide recommendations for the Redevelopment of a Burke-Gilman Trail Redevelopment Study for the portion of the trail through Lake Forest Park
- Recognize the legitimacy of each other's goals and respect other members' opinions
- Search for and create opportunities for consensus
- Seek a constructive format for resolving differences
- Regard all problems brought forward with equal importance
- Commit to listen carefully and ask questions in order to understand the various issues which may arise and, if needed, to speak up and clarify such issues
- Articulate interests, problems and opportunities - not positions
- Work to reach consensus on a recommended plan of action
- Be mindful of the impacts their public and private statements will have on the project
- Not speak for the CAG unless so directed by the membership
- Agree to keep their respective constituencies informed of CAG progress and activities
- Understand the magnitude of issues and not dominate with single viewpoint
- Represent the CAG at public outreach meetings
CAG Products At key points of the review process, the CAG will submit reports to King County summarizing the committee's thinking on key issues. It is understood the CAG may not achieve consensus on all items. In these instances, King County decision makers would appreciate a description of the reasons for differing viewpoints, so that they may be informed in making their decisions.
Open Meetings All meetings of the CAG shall be open to the public. A 15 minute public comment period will begin each meeting. Meetings are facilitated by Margaret Norton-Arnold, Norton-Arnold and Co.
