Proposed fee changes
The King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks is proposing modest fee increases in 2005 for certain programs and activities in order to continue to provide quality recreational experiences for our region. The typical increase is 5 percent. Meanwhile, improving recreational fields will be a major focus for the Parks Division in 2005. The new fees, available for review at www.metrokc.gov/parks/fees/proposedfees.htm, are scheduled to take effect Jan. 3, 2005. We welcome your comments on the fees at: parks.feedback@kingcounty.gov.
SUBWAY Restaurant Opens Soon
A new SUBWAY restaurant will open for business in mid-December at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. The facility attracts more than 500,000 visitors annually and SUBWAY hopes that many will Choose Well and Eat Fresh. A Grand Opening celebration is planned for January 2005. Negotiations are underway for more SUBWAY locations in King County parks including Marymoor Park near Redmond.
USA-China Sports Summit
King County Parks and USA-China Sports Summit officials are in discussions about using our Parks facilities for the upcoming games, which are scheduled June 8-12, 2005 in Seattle. And the King County Aquatic Center is under consideration for several aquatic events.
RV Campground at King County Fairgrounds
The RV Campground at the Fairgrounds is complete. We have 28 paved spaces with water and electric hook-ups, renting for $25 per night until Jan. 3, when rates are $26 per night. The word is starting to get out about the attractive, tree-lined, grass-covered campground and we’ve had some business even though this is not typically the season for camping. A Grand Opening is planned for the start of the camping season this spring. Telephone the Fairgrounds at 206-296-8888 for more information, or to make reservations.
Burke-Gilman Trail Citizens Advisory Group
Thirteen citizens have been appointed to a Citizen Advisory Group to advise King County on a Burke-Gilman Trail Redevelopment Study for the section that runs through the City of Lake Forest Park. The section of the Burke-Gilman Trail in Lake Forest Park is the oldest section of the trail. The County Executive and the Mayor of Lake Forest Park have agreed that a Citizen Advisory Group would be helpful to assist the county and city with the Redevelopment Study. The group will be asked to make recommendations on the study, providing input on design, safety, liability, maintenance, enforcement and environmental concerns. The group had its first meeting Nov. 16.
King County Parks still seeking entrepreneurial proposals
A deadline for a formal Request for Ideas and Proposals (RFI&P) passed in November, but King County Parks still wants to hear your ideas for innovative concepts that can enhance services and generate revenue for parks and pools -- and, of course, your business. Any for-profit, non-profit, group or individual is eligible to submit a venture proposal anytime during the year. To submit your venture ideas, contact Tom Teigen at 206-263-6230 or e-mail tom.teigen@kingcounty.gov.
Redmond loves Marymoor Park
King County’s Marymoor Park has been voted “Best Park” by Redmond Reporter readers. According to the newspaper’s Best of Redmond section published in November, the 634-acre park is "...tremendous, not only in terms of space, but what it offers.” Touting the US Bank Concerts at Marymoor series and the park’s Sammamish River Trail section, the article also goes on to add that “(Marymoor Park) is quiet, but it also serves up a whirlwind of activities. There are fields for soccer players, a climbing rock, picnic tables, a velodrome for bicycle racers, a field for flying model airplanes, a P-Patch garden and an off-leash dog area.”
