Green River Bank Stabilization & Habitat Restoration Project
Undercutting erosion of a flood containment levee along the right bank of the Green river at River Mile 25.4 created a vertical sand escarpment long the levee face. The eroded levee was repaired in 1994 with in-stream placement of Large Woody Debris (LWD) secured by habitat boulders, and the bank was reconstructed with a vegetated floodplain bench using live willow cuttings placed between fabric protected fill layers. Nine years later the site has developed into a complex of shallow marginal habitats with overhanging vegetative cover, which has been observed to support high densities of juvenile salmonids.
