Five pictures of streams and salmon

Slide 12 of 34

Several species of salmon are at risk of extinction. Since the first listings under the Endangered Species Act in 1999, King County, through the Tri-County effort, has been working to establish guidelines for salmon recovery acceptable to the National Marine Fisheries Service. A key component for recovery will be the retention of forested landscapes.

Not only do forests provide for healthy hydrologic cycles - they also provide large woody debris to create structure in streams, shade to maintain cool temperatures, leaf and insect drop to fuel the food chain, stream bank stabilization, and filtration of pollutants.
