Grant Exchange

If your group is seeking funding for projects related to:

  • Watershed Protection
  • Habitat Restoration
  • Reforestation
  • Salmon Conservation
  • Natural Resource Stewardship

you are in the right place!

The Grant Exchange is a clearinghouse of grant and technical assistance programs offered by the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks with the goals of protecting and enhancing the environment, increasing community stewardship, and providing expertise and consultation to projects.

Grants and technical support are an important way in which King County increases opportunities for community stewardship of natural resources. These funds go a long way by developing and strengthening partnerships with community organizations and local governments. On average, every dollar invested through grants is matched by three dollars in cash and in-kind contributions. This leverage makes projects possible that couldn't be done alone.

This Web page provides:

ON-SITE SPILL “FIRST AID” RESPONSE
This grant will fund the development and dissemination of a job site spill response protocol for minor spills.  Among other components, the protocol will include what to do, what equipment to have on site and who to notify. The protocol must be compliant with health safety regulations as well as spill response regulations.  Sample spill response kits may be developed as part of this project.  It must primarily benefit King County.   Note:  Proposals in this grant category are exempt from the following conditions:
  • Award share of salary/consultant cap:  No longer limitied to 25% of  total project cost
  • Planning design cap:  No longer limited to 50% of the award
  • 10% cash match:  Waived
Background:  Oftentimes small spills occur at jobsites and delays in responses or inappropriate responses may cause the needless infiltration of pollutants or their seepage into surface water.  A rapid and proper response may greatly reduce the impact of such a spill before it can do further harm.  For instance, the ready availability of drip pans while work is being done on hydraulic systems can make the difference between a contained and an uncontained spill.  Proper small spill response training is also key to preventing spills or minimizing their impacts.
Only one award will be made.

This grant is a partnership between King County and DBM Contractors, Inc.
