Conserving and protecting groundwater is critical to providing safe and reliable water supplies.Groundwater
Education

Educating people to conserve and protect groundwater -- a valuable, yet hidden resource -- is critical to providing King County citizens with safe and reliable drinking water supplies.

An estimated 30 percent of King County's population relies on groundwater wells for drinking water. That's over half a million people!

Groundwater also feeds surface streams in the summer months, and provides water for salmon and other fish when there is little rain.

The Groundwater Education Program offers descriptions of groundwater and the water cycle, links to educational, conservation, and stewardship sites and ways that you can take action to protect King County's groundwater.

Free classroom presentations and field trips are available through the end of 2007 to schools in the Redmond-Bear Creek Groundwater Protection area. Read more.
