Mid-Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group
MSFEG works to enhance and restore salmon habitat and resources in the Mid-Puget Sound Region -- including the Lake Washington/ Cedar/ Sammamish Watershed -- through community partnerships. MSFEG works to educate the community by involving volunteers in habitat restoration projects such as removing fish passage barriers, planting native trees and shrubs along streams, creating side-channels for over-wintering habitat for juvenile salmon, fencing livestock from streams and installing in-stream large woody debris to create diversity in the streams.

The King County Grant Exchange
The Grant Exchange is a clearinghouse of grant and technical assistance programs offered by the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks. Goals are: protecting and enhancing the environment, increasing community stewardship, and providing expertise and consultation to projects.

Funding Sources for Watershed Stewardship Projects
This list has been compiled by the Community Outreach and Grants Unit of the King County Water and Land Resources Division for groups and individuals looking for potential funding sources for watershed protection and enhancement projects in the Puget Sound area.

Catalog of Federal Funding Sources for Watershed Protection
A searchable database of financial assistance sources (grants, loans, cost-sharing) available to fund a variety of watershed protection projects. Offered by the Environmental Protection Agency.

External Grant Opportunities:
EPA Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving Grants -
The grant is to promote collaborative problem solving within communities, encouraging the community to work with local/State government, the regulated community, schools, churches, other non-profits, etc. on any problem that requires more than one organization to solve. Not strictly for environmental justice but may also be used to addresses multijurisdictional issues.

Public Involvement and Education (PIE) Grants -
The Puget Sound Action Team is now accepting applications to fund community involvement and education activities for up to $45,000 for each Public Involvement and Education (PIE) project. In total, the Action Team plans to award approximately $450,000 to Washington state residents, businesses, organizations, watershed or salmon groups, tribal or local governments, and school teachers or educators with the best projects to involve and educate people about the quality of water in the Sound and marine animal and plant life. This is your opportunity to share in a piece of PIE and do hands on activities that make a difference in getting and keeping Puget Sound healthy.

King County Community Salmon Fund Grants -
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and King County program are announcing the 4th grant round for the Community Salmon Fund, which offers awards of up to $50,000 for habitat restoration in King County and southern Snohomish watersheds flowing into the Sammamish River and Lake Washington. Non-profits, local governments, homeowners groups, business associations, and other community groups are all eligible for funding.

King Conservation District

Central Puget Sound Water Suppliers Forum
The Central Puget Sound Water Suppliers Forum is seeking the "development of sustainable water resource management that is responsive to Endangered Species Act (ESA) and Growth Management Act (GMA) requirements while recognizing tribal and stakeholder interests." It is focused on freshwater resources in the watersheds of central Puget Sound.

US Army Corps of Engineers Lake Washington General Investigation Study
The team is studying improved salmon migration and survival through water conservation and changes at the Hiram A. Chittenden Locks, and the creation of specific habitat improvements throughout the basin for fish and wildlife.

Puget Sound Focused Efforts and Groups
The people and groups listed below are working to protect and restore Puget Sound proper as well as the smaller streams that flow directly into it .

Puget Sound Shared Strategy (Puget Sound Salmon Forum)
The Shared Strategy is a collaborative effort to protect and restore salmon runs across Puget Sound. Shared Strategy is engaging local citizens, tribes, technical experts and policy makers in an effort to build a practical, cost-effective recovery plan that will be endorsed by the people living and working in the watersheds of Puget Sound.

NMFS Northwest Salmon Recovery: Puget Sound Technical Recovery Team
The Puget Sound Technical Recovery Team is responsible for identifying recovery targets for threatened chinook salmon in Puget Sound.

People for Puget Sound
People for Puget Sound is a non-profit citizens' group dedicated to educating and involving people in protecting and restoring the land and waters of Puget Sound and the Northwest Straits.

Puget Soundkeeper Alliance
Formed in 1984 as a coalition of citizens and organizations concerned about the health of Puget Sound, Puget Soundkeeper Alliance has been active in Sound stewardship ever since.

Puget Sound Action Team
The goal of the Puget Sound Water Quality Action Team is to restore and protect the biological health and diversity of Puget Sound by protecting and enhancing Puget Sound's water and sediment quality, its fish and shellfish, and its wetlands and other habitats.

Puget Sound Nearshore Project
The purpose of the Puget Sound Nearshore Project is to identify significant ecosystem problems in Washington State's Puget Sound Basin, evaluate potential solutions and restore and preserve critical nearshore habitat. The project is a cooperative effort among government organizations, tribes, industries and environmental organizations to preserve and restore the health of the Sound's nearshore.

Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission Salmon Recovery
The Commission web site contains information about tribal fish harvest, hatchery, and habitat initiatives in response to the decline of the Pacific salmon.

SalmonInfo
The SalmonInfo webpage provides information on salmon recovery efforts in Puget Sound, focusing on Snohomish, King, and Pierce Counties ("Tri-County").

For the Sake of the Salmon is a regional organization operating in Washington, Oregon and California. Its mission is to restore salmon to levels which ensure healthy, sustainable natural populations and support productive fisheries.

Municiple Research & Services Center of Washington
The primary purpose of this page is to to assist Washington local governments by providing links to information on the Endangered Species Act (ESA) which will assist in dealing with the impact of the Act.
