Project Description

  • Located in the Duwamish Estuary Subwatershed
  • Project is part of project DUW-7 in the 2005 Salmon Habitat Plan (page 7-90)
  • Project would acquire a two-acre parcel with at least 500 feet of river bank just downstream of the East Marginal Way S. bridge
  • Subsequent phases will involve design and construction of off-channel habitat that will benefit juvenile threatened chinook salmon and other fish and wildlife

Importance for Salmon

  • Site is located in the zone of salt and freshwater mixing that is especially important to juvenile salmon in the watershed
  • Critical transition area for juvenile salmon produced higher in the Green/Duwamish River watershed
  • Opportunity to construct up to two acres of intertidal slough/side channel in the future
