Riverview Park Side Channel Restoration in Kent Green/Duwamish and Central Puget Sound Watershed Water Resource Inventory Area (WRIA) 9

Project Description

• Located in the Lower Green River Subwatershed
• Project is part of project LG-7 in the 2005 Salmon Habitat Plan (page 7-62)
• Project would design, permit, and construct a side channel at Riverview Park in Kent
• Park also will provide river access and other recreational opportunities

Partners and Funding

• Led by the City of Kent in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
• $150,000 funded by SRFB (seventh round) with the City of Kent providing $320,000 and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers providing $1,120,000 (pending) through the Green/Duwamish Ecosystem Restoration Project
• Additional funding information

Importance for Salmon This project will provide refuge from high flows for juvenile salmonids in the Lower Green River, increasing the rates of survival in this part of the watershed The side channel will provide rearing habitat for young salmon where they can feed and take shelter throughout the year This project will create substitute habitat for the side channels, oxbows, and wetlands that historically occupied the valley floor (Adobe Acrobat 1.5 MB)
