Historical moment for Carnation—the new wastewater treatment system is up and running

Cinco de Mayo (May 5) marks the date the Carnation sewer system started treating the city's wastewater. Hookups to the system have begun and are proceeding in an organized way. If you need information on the hookup schedule, check Carnation's Web site at http://www.ci.carnation.wa.us/

Project background

Until recently, residents and businesses in Carnation relied on septic systems to treat their wastewater. The Carnation City Council felt that a wastewater treatment system was essential to the city's economic and environmental prosperity.

In July 2002, the Carnation City Council approved an agreement with King County to build a treatment plant. In the agreement, the city will design and build a local wastewater collection system while the county will design, build, operate and maintain a new treatment plant and associated discharge facilities.

Carnation's Web site (click on sewer project in left hand column) has information on the sewer system project, especially information about the need for a facility, the cost to ratepayers and the collection system details.

This Web site is a resource for information about this aspect of the project. Click on the links below for more information.

King County and the City of Carnation are committed to keeping people informed about the project. Briefings are available on request.
