Denny Way/Lake Union CSO Project
Issue No. 12
July 2005
We’re done….
…And that means a cleaner Lake Union and Elliott Bay!
The Denny Way Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Control Project is complete. After nearly 12 years of planning and more than four years of construction, the new system began operation in April 2005. This project is one of the most significant public investment projects undertaken by King County and, at a cost of $140 million, the largest of the county CSO systems.
In this final project newsletter, we chronicle the project milestones and accomplishments of this joint project of King County and the City of Seattle to protect public health and the environment. You’ll also find a review of the entire system and how it works to keep pollutants from entering Elliott Bay and Lake Union.
We would like to thank all project neighbors, businesses, park users, and commuters affected by construction for their understanding and patience with us during the past four years.
Now, it’s time to celebrate! We hope to see you at a system dedication and celebration event on July 7, 2005. From the entire project team, thank you, and see you on the 7th!
