The project team has met with businesses, residents and community groups in the area, including Rainier Beach High School, to gather information and explain details.

Flaggers will direct traffic

Flaggers direct traffic as needed.

Signs provide information about the Henderson/ML King CSO Project

Signs like this one at South Henderson and South Fairbanks streets provide information about the Henderson/ML King CSO Project.

Fences were built to reduce noise and provide privacy for homes that are next to construction.

A sweeper made rounds each day to clean streets.

Settlement monitors

Settlement monitors were placed underground to measure possible ground movement during tunneling.

To minimize disruption, King County considered the needs of the Rainier Beach community in planning this project.

Besides road revisions and detours required by the City of Seattle to maintain safety and accommodate construction, impacts to neighbors may at times include noise, dust and vibration. King County and the contractor took steps to minimize any disturbances to community members.

Updates were mailed and placed at signposts along the construction route (flier box locations are shown on the aerial photo and listed below). Five signposts with detailed project information and flier boxes are located at points along the Henderson/M.L. King alignment. They can be found at:

  • Henderson Pump Station – South Henderson Streeet and Seward Park Avenue South
  • In front of the Henderson/M.L. King project office -- Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Henderson
  • Inlet regulator site – South Henderson and South Fairbanks streets
  • Outlet regulator site – South Norfolk Street and 42nd Avenue South
  • Airport Way South and South Norfolk.

Caution needed by all

For safety and to reduce impacts on businesses, residents, motorists and pedestrians, the construction contractor provided flaggers and signs as described in a traffic plan approved by the City of Seattle. Motorists, pedestrians and everyone in the area were asked to use caution around the work.
