Regional Pilot ProjectsThe regional pilot projects were completed in January 2004. The Pilot Project Report provides an overview of the I/I control program and the experiences gained from the 10 pilot projects. It also includes detailed information on project selection, design, construction, costs, and results. The Warranty Inspection Data reports for the Pilot Projects are now available to download. A major part of the overall I/I Control Program consists of choosing, planning for, designing, constructing, and then monitoring the effectiveness of a limited number of pilot projects to remove I/I. It is anticipated that these pilot projects will demonstrate different techniques for I/I removal that are applicable for the entire region. Ten Regional Pilot Projects SelectedOut of a regional consensus process, local agencies selected ten final pilot projects from a broad list of candidates based on a set of criteria they had developed previously. The selected pilots represent three in the North, East and South regions plus a regional manhole rehabilitation pilot that involves three agencies. The selected pilots include a mix of projects on public and private property in the following Local Agency jurisdictions: North
South
East
Combined Manhole Rehabilitation Project (three agencies)
Sewer System Evaluation Surveys (SSES)Sewer System Evaluation Surveys (SSES) in each pilot area help define the repairs that are needed. During the SSES period, July through November 2002, crews surveyed manholes, sewer mains and laterals (to homes and businesses) to look for sources of I/I into the system through direct visual inspection using remote cameras and smoke testing. The results of this SSES work will help identify the specific pilot work to be done and design the specific techniques to be tested. Construction on most of the pilot projects are to begin in spring 2003. Beginning with the SSES work, local agencies and King County will begin their joint public outreach effort to inform citizens about I/I and how testing for it will be accomplished in their neighborhoods. |
