Hidden Lake Pump Station Replacement and Sewer Improvement Project

Pipe construction on the new Boeing Creek Trunk Sewer, extending from the Richmond Beach Pump Station into Innis Arden, is complete as of March 2008. On March 15, the system between the Hidden Lake Pump Station and Richmond Beach Pump Station was put into operation.

Since August 2006, Frank Coluccio Construction Company has installed

• Over 1,200 feet of new local (Ronald Wastewater District) sewer pipe
• More than 12,000 feet of the county's new sewer pipe
• About 6,500 feet of Seattle Public Utility water mains

Work in Innis Arden was especially challenging due to multiple underground utilities and a stretch that required installation of five separate pipes (see below). Some sections of the work were quite deep, requiring extensive support systems and excavation. Crews performed sequential excavations in some areas of Springdale, 14th, and 15th Avenues Northwest that required multiple pipes in order to disturb only one lane at a time.

Progress in Innis Arden

Since January, crews have installed five pipes in the Innis Arden area from the 18500 block of Springdale Court south to the 17700 block of 14 th Avenue Northwest:

• A pipe to move air through the system and help control odors
• Two county sewer pipes
• A new Seattle Public Utilities water line
• Ronald Wastewater District's local sewer line

What's left to complete on the trunk sewer?

Work to replace water and local sewer lines remains. Crews will continue working to prepare the system for operations. Final restoration, including a full width pavement overlay in the travel lanes, is currently scheduled to begin in spring and will be completed by the end of summer 2008.

• Completing water pipeline replacement in Innis Arden
• Lining new manholes to prevent corrosion
• Decommissioning structures associated with the old sewer system
• Installing stormwater drainage structures on Northwest 196th Street and Richmond Beach Drive NW
• Preparing the road surface by grinding
• Pavement overlay in the travel lanes
• Widened asphalt shoulder on the north and east side in some areas
• Pavement marking
